Gelli plate printing with botanicals involves pressing fresh or dried plant material — leaves, grasses, seed heads, ferns, and flowers — directly onto an acrylic gel plate charged with acrylic paint, then lifting prints onto paper or fabric to capture the intricate surface detail of stems, veins, and edges.
Layering is central to the process: ghost prints (the faint second pull taken without re-inking) build depth and atmosphere, and successive passes with different plants and colours create complex, painterly compositions that are impossible to fully predict or repeat.
Sessions typically explore direct and masked printing, building up layers, working with colour mixing on the plate, and using the gel plate's unique ability to hold fine botanical texture in a way that rewards both careful observation and spontaneous play.
I've run workshops that have been booked as surprise presents, one-to-one sessions and even for groups of friends wanting to learn something new, at different venues across England (Yes, I do travel), as well as at my own studio in Lincolnshire.
If this is somethng that you would like to arrange, then please contact me using the link below, and I will organise a time to talk on the phone or over Zoom with you.
- Botanic monoprints using Gelli plates, from beginner’s to ‘taking it further’ days.
A single day course, for up to 4 people at my studio, costs £155 each person. Longer, more detailed courses are also available. These include all materials.
If you wish to book me for larger groups of up to 12 people, then the cost person comes down, if I’m travelling to a venue that can accommodate us all and has the facilities too.
Once arranged I can set-up a bespoke page on the website for each person to pay for their place, so that they receive a voucher ticket.
This will also be where you can book a place for someone else as a surprise.
Please bring your own apron and lunch.
Contact me here and please check my T & C page before booking.
