About This Print
A unique 1/1 collagraph print of trees — the weight of trunks, the reach and tangle of branches. Built up through the collagraph process, the plate holds layers of mark-making that only reveal themselves fully under the press. Earth pigments deepen the printed surface, connecting the work to the landscape it came from.
Inspiration
I'm interested in what a tree looks like when you're not looking at it as a whole — when you're just watching one branch, or the place two trunks cross. There's also a kind of calm that happens when you stand beneath a tree in full leaf and the light finds its way through. It rapidly disappears, then softly returns.
The Japanese have a word for it: komorebi.
