Collagraph printmaking is so accessible and produces art with tecture and depth. It involves building a textured plate — typically from card, mount board, or thin plywood — by adhering materials such as carborundum grit, tissue paper, fabric, media and found textures, then sealing the surface with button polish before inking and printing through an etching press. The plate can be worked both intaglio (ink pushed into recessed areas and wiped back) and relief (ink rolled across the surface peaks), or both simultaneously, giving rich tonal range from deep velvety blacks to delicate lifted marks.

Workshop sessions typically cover plate construction and material exploration, inking and wiping techniques, damp paper preparation, and press printing — often producing a small edition of two or three prints from a single plate or a range of plates.

I've run workshops that have been booked as surprise presents, one-to-one sessions and even for groups of friends wanting to learn something new, at different venues across England (Yes, I do travel), as well as at my own studio in Lincolnshire.

If this is something that you would like to arrange, then please contact me using the link below, and I will organise a time to talk on the phone or over Zoom with you.

  • Etching Prints with an Open Press days - the Open Press is a mini etching press!
  • A single day course, for up to 4 people at my studio, costs £155 each person
  • This includes all materials. Longer courses are also available and we can co create what is suitable to suit you.

If you wish to book me for larger groups of up to 12 people, then the cost person comes down, if I’m travelling to a venue that can accommodate us all and has the appropriate facilities too.

Once arranged, I can set-up a bespoke page on the website for each person to pay for their place, so that they receive a voucher ticket.

This will also be where you can book a place for someone else as a surprise.

Please bring your own apron and lunch.

Contact me here and please check my T & C page before booking.
