About This Print
A unique 1/1 print made from close looking — noticing dark, textural trunks, the tangle of branches, light caught and lost between them.
My process builds the image in layers; earth pigments, a blind emboss and printing ink are pressed into the paper under the weight of my etching press. It leaves a surface that holds both the deliberate mark and the accidental one.
Inspiration
Winter trees are the ones I come back to for inspiration here. Without leaves, a tree shows you everything — the decisions it has made, the way it has grown, the places where it has split and kept going.
This print began there, in that stripped-back woodland geometry.
Earth pigments have their own relationship with winter: ochre, umber, the dark of bare soil. The palette for these arrived naturally.
